The upper secondary Literature and Language Arts Club students were treated to three exciting theatre trips this year. The first play they watched, on 6 April, was The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. It was an enriching experience for the 120 students who were entertained to a night of hilarious comedy in the prestigious Esplanade theatre. On 16 May, some 40 Literature students enjoyed an eye-opening experience of a Shakespearean play under the night sky. The much-talked-about annual production by SRT called Shakespeare in the Park put up the play Julius Caesar this year. The students brought out their picnic mats and bonded over food and drinks as they watched the classic play directed with a modern twist. Finally, on 28 July, 60 students went to watch an interesting adaptation of the O-level text Here and Beyond at SOTA. This theatre exposure helped the secondary 4 students increase their appreciation of their literature text.
Studies have shown that theatre trips such as these have many positive effects on st udents as theatre en hances literary know ledge, tolerance and empathy.
